Robert Binder is the winner of the ISTQB® International Software Testing Excellence Award 2016. The Award Committee selected Mr. Binder in recognition of his commitment to software quality and the testing profession over the past 24 years.

ROBERT BINDER

Mr. Robert V. Binder is a high-assurance thought leader, serial entrepreneur, and system architect. He recently joined Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. He is the author of the definitive Testing Object-oriented Systems, two other books, and many articles.

He co-chaired the X9 D14 working group adapting the ISO 9001 Quality Management standard to automated trading systems. As a member of IEEE working group P1633, Robert recommended Practice for Software Reliability Engineering, he drafted sections on software process, metrics, and model-based testing.

He received the MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and the BA and MBA from the University of Chicago. Binder is an IEEE Senior Member, ACM member, and holds the CSDP.

Dorothy Graham has been in testing for 40 years, starting as a software developer at Bell Labs in the USA, where she was put into the Test Group and wrote test execution and comparison tools. After immigrating to the UK, she worked at Ferranti Computer Systems for 7 years, as a developer and team leader, putting an emphasis on testing (which was somewhat unusual at the time). At the National Computing Centre she developed training material in software engineering and software testing.
